Model Number: SCCPPC600-V1

Manufacturer Website: Crock-pot

Hip Notes:

Standard electric pressure multi-cooker. Minimum liquid requirement for pressure cooking is 8fl oz (250ml) of liquid.

The pressure function operates at two pressures: HIGH 6.5 – 10 PSI (45 – 70 kPa) and LOW 3.3 – 6.5 PSI (23 – 45 kPa).

The slow cooker functions has three settings: High, Medium and Low – no temperature ranges are given for these settings.

When following recipes that require “manual” or “custom” cooking time, use the “Beans/Chili” setting that will allow you to adjust the pressure cooking time from 5 minutes to 2 hours at high or low pressure.  Unfortunately, none of this cooker’s programs will let you pressure cook anything for less than 5 minutes.  In that case, set the cooker on Bean/Chili to 5 minutes at low pressure – that is roughly equivalent to 2.5 minutes at high.

Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi-cooker Error Codes

Error CodeMeaningRecommended Actions
CLOSE LID
(blinking light)
Lid in incorrect positionEnsure that the lid is closed completely and in the LOCKED (closed lock) position aligning the triangle on the lid with the lock.
E1Internal circuits have disconnected.Contact Crock-pot customer service.
E2Internal sensor has disconnected and the current is insufficient
OR
Unit is overheating
Try using another plug to operate the cooker.
OR
Unplug the unit, remove the inner pot and let it cool completely.
E3Lid not Closed or Sealed correctly. If you receive this code while using one of the pressure cooking settings, then the lid probably did not close or seal correctly. To resolve, follow the steps below:
1. Rotate the Steam Release Valve to the “Release” position and wait for the unit to de-pressurize.
2. Take off the lid and look underneath to make sure the Sealing Gasket (large rubber ring) is properly secured to the underside of the lid.
3. If your recipe looks like it may need more liquid now that you have released some of the steam after removing the lid, then add more, stir your ingredients, and reattach the lid, making sure the Steam Release Valve is in the “Seal” position.
4. Unplug the unit for at least 5 seconds, and then re-plug it in and re-program your cook settings to begin cooking.
E4Cooker already pressurized. This notification occurs when the Express Crock attempts to begin a new cooking or pressurization cycle after it is already pressurized. To resolve, follow the steps below:
1. Rotate the Steam Release Valve to the “Release” position and wait for the unit to de-pressurize.
2. If your recipe looks like it may need more liquid now that you have released some of the steam after removing the lid, then add more, stir your ingredients, and reattach the lid.
3. If you were using a pressure setting, make sure the Steam Release Valve is in the “Seal” position. Otherwise, the Steam Release Valve should be placed in the “Release” position if you were trying to use a non-pressure setting (like Slow Cook).
4. Unplug the unit for at least 5 seconds, and then re-plug it in and re-program your cook settings to begin cooking.
E5Valve in incorrect position or lid not sealed. This code appears when either the lid or Steam Release Valve is being used incorrectly for a non-pressure cook setting.
Please note that the lid should never be used when using the Brown/Sauté setting. When using the lid during the Slow Cook or Yogurt settings, the Steam Release Valve must be turned to the open or “Release” position. If you receive the E5 Notification during any of these situations, then simply remove the lid while using Brown/Sauté, or correctly position Steam Release Valve to “Release” while using Slow Cooking or Yogurt, and then unplug the unit for at least 5 seconds, re-plug it in and re-program your cook settings to begin cooking.
E6Unit is overheating If you receive this code while cooking, it means that the Express Crock was unable to generate enough steam to pressurize completely. To resolve, follow the steps below:
1. Make sure that the Steam Release Valve is turned to the closed or “Seal” position. If it was not in the correct position, then rotate it to the correct position and jump to step 3 below.
2. If the Steam Release Valve was in the correct position, then turn it to the “Release” position and wait for the unit to de-pressurize. Then remove the lid and look underneath it to make sure the Sealing Gasket (large rubber ring) is properly secured to the underside of the lid.
3. Add another cup of liquid (water, broth, etc) to the cooking pot, stir your ingredients, and reattach the lid, making sure the Steam Release Valve is in the “Seal” position.
4. Unplug the unit for at least 5 seconds, and then re-plug it in and re-program your cook settings to begin cooking.

  1. My crockpot express keeps giving me an E6 message. I only turn it to what the recipe calls for. What can I do. It’s fairly new

    1. I just started using mine, and I am getting the same message. I had plenty of liquid and followed the directions… not sure what the deal is.

    2. My manual said to make sure I have at least 1 cup of water/liquid to start cooking. E6 means you need to add more liquid.

  2. I called Crock-Pot today re the E6 I got last night. They said I didn’t have enough liquid. I had an entire jar of spaghetti sauce, 1/4 C of stock, and a 1/4 C of wine to boot! However, I had it on the “Soup” setting and was told I didn’t have enough liquid in the pot. I’ve been reading about this today, and what I found says, “When following recipes that require “manual” or “custom” cooking time, use the “Beans/Chili” setting that will allow you to adjust the pressure cooking time from 5 minutes to 2 hours at high or low pressure. Unfortunately, none of this cooker’s programs will let you pressure cook anything for less than 5 minutes. In that case, set the cooker on Bean/Chili to 5 minutes at low pressure – that is roughly equivalent to 2.5 minutes at high.” I will give this a try and hope that the Soup setting was expecting much more liquid than I was using. Makes sense, sort of.

    1. A jar of spaghetti sauce doesn’t really count as “liquid” because it is too thick to boil. So, basically, you only had 1/2 a cup of liquid in a cooker which requires at least twice that!

      What recipe did you use?

      1. Thanks Laura. That kind of makes sense. Is there anything that tells us how much liquid is required for each setting?

Here is a link to the recipe I was following. I only had three chicken breasts in the pot.

        1. As noted above, in the Hip Notes, the minimum liquid requirement for the Crock-pot Express is 1 cup of liquid – for all pressure programs.

Personally, not a big fan of that website as it started off by copying some of my recipes – and the author was beyond rude and nasty when I contacted her asking she give me credit. Objectively, there are many things wrong with that recipe, not the least of which is the addition of flour PRIOR to pressure cooking – which would thicken any liquid you DID add to the pressure cooker- and, as I mentioned before is only 1/2 cup of liquid – not enough for most pressure cookers to reach pressure.

I would look elsewhere for reliable recipes. I don’t have anything similar, but maybe Pressure Cooking Today or the Instant Pot recipe site does.

  3. I just started getting the e6 error as well, while attempting to make cheese, so there was an entire half gallon of milk in the pot. This was the third use. Thoroughly disappointed.

    1. Tina, what recipe for cheese were you following?

      Ciao,

  4. My friend has made this recipe several times in his instapot w no problems but my crockpot keeps giving me the e6 Everytime I try to make it. Any clues as to why? http://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/recipes/a55394/instant-pot-giant-pancake-recipe/

    1. The burn-control is probably different on your Crock-Pot Express. The “giant pancake” is originally a rice cooker recipe. I don’t get the point of pressure cooking it (the recipe you linked to). It takes exactly the same amount of time in the rice cooker. I would say to try making it on “Slow Cook” HI setting. Same time. Same difference. No E6 error. ; )

Here’s the “rice cooker” recipe that takes the same amount of time:

  5. My crockpot keeps giving me the error 5.
I’m tried everything don’t know what to do. I’m been waiting and changing things for two hours

    1. Sherry, this error happens when the lid is not in the correct position for the program being used. Can you share what program you were using and the position of the lid (if any)?

      Ciao,

      1. Hi I keep getting E5 and I am in the sauté brown mode and keep warm mode.
I did a water test and it worked fine. I made spaghetti but had to brown on stove once the meal was completed it gave me the E5 error again. How do I fix this?

  6. Mine keeps saying it’s heating but it still cooks and I have to keep track of time. It won’t switch to a countdown. I just bought it and used it twice before this started.

    1. Retha, the recipe you are using may not have enough liquid or may contain thickeners preventing the cooker from building pressure. Do a test with just 4 cups of water, and see if the cooker can build pressure.

  7. we used this cooker for the first time a few nights ago and it did a great job. When using it the second time we were not able to turn the lid to lock so that we could use it as a pressure cooker. Not sure why it wont turn to the lock position

    1. There is a backup pressure release valve (in the casing of the handle) that controls the twist and locking mechanism of the cooker. Make sure that valve is clear of debris and can move freely and try again. : )

  8. My pressure cooker keeps giving me the E6 error code when using Browning method and and e4 error code when trying any setting with the lid closed.

  9. I cooked pork chops using brown/saute. The brown/saute only lasted a few minutes. Then tried to switch to Beans/Chili. Now none of the control buttons work. Seems broken to me.

  10. When I plug in the machine, Close Lid immediately lights up and stays lit. Meat/Stew and Beans/Chili are both lit up as well and the display shows “rrrr”. This is only the 2nd time that I have used it. I think I got a dud.

    1. Yes, only one option should illuminate at a time.

  11. Hi there

My pressure cooker keeps saying “heat” on the display screen. What does that mean? It usually stops after a few minutes and show me how much time is left…

  12. I keep getting “HEAT” on the screen but it will not allow me to change it to my desired temperature nor a designated length of time. The “HEAT” display eventually goes off after several minutes (10-15) then my time begins to start….?

  13. I have only used my Crockpot Express Multi cooker a few times. Suddenly, the inner lid rubber ring keeps coming out –and my cooker will not go into pressure cooker mode–it stays on “heat” forever.

    1. Sherry, it sounds like the gasket is placed incorrectly in the lid and not getting a proper seal. Make sure that it is pushed evenly around the metal ring in the lid.

      Ciao,

      L

  14. The bobber and small rubber washer came off when I was wiping the under part of the lid. For the life of me I can’t figure out how to put it back together, it won’t stay in the lid. the picture is not clear on what goes where.

  15. I’m getting an E4 or E5 every time I try to use one of my functions on my crockpot multi-cooker. I can’t seem to get it to reprogram.

    1. Did you ever find out how to fix this issue?

  16. Re. Crock pot express crock Multi cooker
I am receiving an E4 and E5 messages all of a sudden. Just finished cooking rissoto which cooked well under rice mode pressure and saute modes. Decided to put it back on to saute mode for a moment to firm up rice and got an E5 message (no lid). Pulled plug to cool down and tried several more times with continued E5 message. Cleaned pot and lid/gasket and put in cup of water on pressure mode and get an E4 message. Retried sever times and mode. Nothing seems to work

Note: cooked soup two nights ago and pork loin roast lastt night with no problems.

    Bought at Kohls 8/7/18

  17. My Crockpot Express Multi-Cooler will no longer say Heat and pressurized. We have cleaned everything and checked for debris. I’m not sure what to do next.

  18. where does loose silicon seal go ?with it in any position cant close thank you
