hip info:

Electric pressure multi-cooker that only cooks at “high” pressure of 70kpa (approx 10psi) for all cooking programs except for “Slow Cook” (P1)  and “Brown/Sear ” (P9).

No minimum liquid requirement is noted for this cooker in the manual, so be sure to use at least 1 1/2 cups of liquid (standard for most electric pressure cookers) for all pressure recipes.

When setting a custom cooking time for this cooker, select any program from P2 to P8 and adjust the cooking time according to the recipe – note the P3 “Rice/Risotto” program will not let you adjust the cooking time.

According to readers, the “Slow Cook” setting operates like the “low” setting from a conventional slow cooker. Make sure to bring the recipe to a boil with the saute’ setting, before switching to the “Slow Cook” setting and to use it with the lid on and the valve closed.

  1. I recently purchased the Farberware 7-IN-1 programmable (2nd gen.) pressure cooker. The cookbook that came with it doesn’t even tell how to cook rice (amount of rice to water) Do you carry or recommend a cookbook suitable for this cooker? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you

    1. Nancy, you can use the quantities, ratios and cooking times from this article with your Farberware!

      1. How to change the time after the program has started?

  2. What code do I use to cook a cornbeef, I picked P05, is that correct

    1. Yes, you can use P5. When in doubt, use the chicken program!

I say that because there are two models of Farberware electric pressure cookers – but they both have the chicken program which looks at pressure and is adjustable. ; )

  3. Can Anyone tell me if the slow cook setting is for “High” or “Low”?? it makes a big difference planning meals

    1. Stephanir\e, the Slow Cook setting is without pressure. It is for Slow Cooking. All of the Farberware pressure programs cook at a single “high” pressure.

      1. But is the setting for the slow cooker hi (4) hours or low (8) hours?

        1. This is the answer I’m trying to find too.

  4. My pressure cooker comes with a rack that goes inside. Can i bake a cake on the rack inside the pressure cooker?

    1. If your pressure multi cooker has “bake” setting, yes. Otherwise, I recommend adding water to the base and steaming the cake with pressure (use the chicken setting). Like this:

  5. Can somoene please let me know if I am supposed to add water before cooking veggies. And what is the best setting to use for cooking kale?

  6. Is there a guide for how to cook veggies? I purchased this appliance and the instructions are useless. I know there is so much I can do with this but without directions, it isn;t much use to me. Is there any way to find a better instruction booklet?

I really need instructions on vegtables, but need for overall as well.

  7. Hi I just bought the Farberware 7 in 1 pressure cooker and am no sure how to proceed- the manual doesn’t not seem to have much information- for example, how do I release the pressure ? Do I need to be worried that I am going to do something wrong?

    1. Andrea, on page 5 of the manual on this page look at the item number 2 “Float Valve”. Turn it to release pressure. Please come visit our pressure cooking school video series where I describe all of the electric pressure cooker parts and what they do!

  8. Are all of the P options high pressure or are some of them low pressure. I have seen some recipes that say to use low pressure.

    1. Unfortunately, no. All the programs in the Farberware are operating at “high” pressure. You can still make the “low pressure” recipes by reducing the recommended pressure cooking time by 1/3 (multiply the minutes by .66 and round down to the nearest minute ; )

  11. Can I use this model for canning? I wanted a pressure cooker for canning and my mother got me this one for Christmas…. but I see nothing in the instructions or recipe book about canning. If so, what setting would I use for such a thing?

    1. Yes, you can use it in place a simple pot of boiling water and follow the USDA processing time for canning of acidic foods. You cannot use this cooker for pressure canning.

  12. I just poured broth about half cup right into my pressure cooker with not having the pan in will it hurt to use or should I wait for a day or 2 to use it.

    1. Becky, don’t use a wet electric pressure cooker! Turn it on its side tilting the cooker down-wards to get all of the broth out. Use a soapy sponge to remove what you can. Then, leave it overnight with a fan blowing into it.

If it’s completely dry the next morning you can use it, otherwise, use the fan for another day.

It should be OK, but whenever the heating element turns on the house will smell kind-of meaty. : )

  13. Dear, does the Farberware 6-Qt Digital Pressure Cooker work with 220 voltage power supply. As I have purchased one for my Mam overseas.
    Your replay is appreciated

    1. If you purchased it from the U.S. it will not work overseas. If you purchase it from the UK, you will just need a plug adapter for it to work anywhere else in the world.

  14. Hi Becky, I did the same thing but I quickly dumped the liquid out and rinsed with a small amount of water a couple times then turned it upside to dry.I waited until the next day before plugging it in, Pushed start and it came right on however, I now double check before I PUT ANYTHING IN IT :)

  15. can you successfully can green beans in the farberware 7 in 1 programmable pressure cooker? Thank you for responding quickly, as our green beans are ready!

  16. How do I get the flashing dashes to stop to program the pressure cooker?

  17. My Farberware 7-n-1 will not pressure up every time. We keep having to restart it. Tried to cook rib in it. Even when it did pressure up on the meat setting, they were not done when the timer went off.

    1. Becky, do the water test (aka pressure cook water in it) and check to see if after the cooker has reached pressure steam exits from anywhere.

Another issue could be too little liquid which meant the cooker failed to reach pressure. Some brands, and I suspect this is one of them, will continue trying to reach pressure for a set amount of time. If it doesn’t instead of giving you an error message the timer will count down but there is no actual cooking going on.

      We’ll figure it out!

  18. While cooking does the steam come out the valve while cooking?

  19. Several of the recipes I have found call for setting the cooker to “manual.” What is recommended since there is not an actual manual setting?

    1. Use the chicken/poultry program, and then adjust the cooking time according to the recipe.

  20. I’m stuck at the water test. uugghh. This is my very first PRESSURE cooker and am scared of it. It’s been in the box for some week or so. No instructions on …Exactly to do the water test! The buttons are in hours and the P buttons are for the 9 menus so, nothing for the water test. Instructions only say to add at least 2 cups of water for 10 mins with no food and no lid until no odor or smoke is present. So how do you get to the 10 mins? They are in hours? And No lid? How /what buttons to depress. Starter insrructions not clear. Never had one of these, so how do I get there. Read instructions and nothing more on it. This is not an Instant Pot it’s a Farberware, the videos and these buttons do not match….

    1. Tenci, glad you watched the video. Choose the Chicken/Poultry program and then adjust the “cooking” time to 10 minutes!

      Welcome, and Merry Christmas!!

  21. My wife, Gail, and I got one of these cookers for Christmas. We don’t understand one particular thing about the instructions. There is a part number 11 which is listed as “cooking stand.” We don’t see any mention of it in the instructions. What is its use? Is it used inside the cooker perhaps in the removable container, part number 21? Or what is its use? Thanks for answering our question.

  22. I’m agreeing with all the comments that the instructions are terrible. Then one suggestion here is to spend even more time watching some videos. My other pressure cooker, now 10 years old, gives better instructions than this one. Does anyone have another link that is more helpful than these videos or this forum? So frustrated!

    1. Well, you can try contacting the manufacturer. I have this page, host these discussions, and make videos in an effort to help people. I’m sorry to hear your frustration but I think it would make a more positive impact if you shared your frustration with the manufacturer of this pressure cooker instead of refusing to review the materials I created to help.

  23. Hi, I received this brand of insta pot for Christmas. So far I Love it. However, I find a lot of recipes on the internet call for a manual time. Can this be done on this pot? If not what setting do I use? For instance, I am cooking spaghetti tonight and don’t know what setting. The Internet says to do manual for 10 min.

    1. Use the Chicken/Poultry program, and adjust the time from there.

      Ciao,

      L

  24. Regarding setting the time, you always say to use the chicken/poultry setting to set the time. Will the time stay if you want to use a different program setting?

    1. I recommend this setting because there are two Farberware models available and on both the time is “most” adjustable using this program. If you’re following a Farberware recipe, you should use their recommended program. If you’re following a recipe from anyone else, you should input the time using the poultry program.

  25. Can the inside removable container of the electric pressure cooker be used on stovetop?
